Sitting in Bars with Cake is a story inspired by true events, which revolves around the lives of best friends Jane (played by Yara Shahidi) and Corinne (played by Odessa A’zion) as they navigate their twenties in Los Angeles. Corinne, who is the epitome of an extrovert, manages to persuade her best friend Jane, a talented but shy home baker, to embark on a year-long journey of baking cakes and taking them to bars. The primary objective of this endeavor is to help Jane meet new people and build her self-assurance, a practice commonly referred to as “cakebarring.” During their year of “cakebarring,” Corinne receives a diagnosis that significantly impacts her life, and the duo confronts a challenge that surpasses any previous experiences they’ve had. “Sitting in Bars with Cake” is not just a wild adventure exploring some of Los Angeles’ vibrant bars, but also a heartfelt tribute to the power of female friendship, self-discovery, and discovering happiness in unexpected moments.
