Angel Monét is a music producer who has won New England’s Urban Award for her work on Monét A. She is known for making church, pop, funk, hip-hop, and Caribbean-style songs for kids. Angel is a great name for her in the area where she does her best work, which is helping young black people who are dealing with mental illness.

Since the number of black people with mental illness is going up, Angel thought it was time to get back to our kids and help them deal with the problems of this world. Angel has worked on this problem for a long time.

“I’ve been doing this kind of work for more than 30 years, including making music for children, singing for children, and teaching children. I saw that kids, especially kids of color, needed more self-esteem. As I went from school to school with my music programs, I started to write songs about taking care of yourself, loving yourself, and letting others know they are important and special.

Angel knew she was on the right track when she saw many of the kids she was mentoring change because of Angel’s music classes.

“After the outbreak, I could see how important my projects were. I’m sure I’m on the right track to keep talking to them about their lives. I wrote a family show for kids called “Jack’s World.” It’s about a boy with low self-esteem. In this show, I worked with a lot of kids, mostly in Boston, Massachusetts. It ran for more than a decade. But what I found was that many of the kids who were in the play reached out to me, even though they are now adults with their own children.

Angel didn’t know how much the play meant to the kids who were in it until they started getting in touch with her years later. Angel put the play on hold because she was tired.

“They told me how much this play meant to them when they were so young. And they asked me to bring the recording so that their children could hear the word. It made them feel good about themselves, and it was a part of their childhood they would never forget. So, getting that response years later let me know that these positive words are making a difference.

Angel is a unique person because of what she does. It takes a lot of work to help people with mental illness, and not everyone has the skills to do so. Angel keeps going, giving it all she has. She sells things that can help people with mental health problems.

“I have On Demand movies. These are videos for younger kids, but I think bigger kids will also like them. We have one about respecting yourself and others, one about how “I am somebody special,” one about the history of women, one about important black people, and I also do live video shows. I call it entertainment. Not everything I do is entertainment, but everything I do has a meaning. I have one record out, which is the music for the show Jack’s World. I hope to make another one in the future.”

Keep your eyes and ears open. The month of May, is Mental Health Awareness Month, so Angel will release her new song “Hold On.” Visit her website at www.inetproductionsinc.com if you want to learn more.
